Siberian Husky/German Shepherd, Female, Spayed, approx 2 yrs old, HW + (been on slow treatment), approx 55 lbs, has one blue eye and one hazel eye.
  • Dog-friendly
  • House-trained
  • Crate-trained (if she has to go potty while in crate, will let you know to get up off your behind and take her out).
  • Highly trainable given positive feed-back or food-motivated/rewards
  • People dog--if she is bonded to you and does not see you, she will "call" for you.
  • Talks, will actually "mouth" like moving her lips, some folks mistake this for her "showing teeth". Howls and is verbal like a husky (hoots, yammers, low growls, "talks").  If you start talking to her, be prepared for a conversation.
  • Kid-friendly (would say best with kids who are eight years and up--she can be very "playful" and could knock over a younger child easily).
Is generally friendly with people, will alert if she feels anything is "suspicious".  If she does not like or particularly care for  someone, she will point-blank turn her back or just act like they do not exist.

Goofball, sweet heart, ridiculous, highly interactive, affectionate, verbal in the husky way.  She is a VERY smart dog, caught onto wait command very quickly and will wait for you to tell her it is okay to eat before she does. Knows "sit", "stay", "wait", "come", "kennel". Walks well on-leash, does good in the car.

Quirks:  Does not like thunder.  Dances when she is ready to eat (pretty hilarious to see). Drools when you start putting the food in her bowl.  Does not like to share food  or treats with other dogs and will let them know with low warning growl if they approach her bowl, has  never been aggressive with humans while with us.  To avoid any issues with the other dogs she is around,  she is fed in her crate away from the other dogs, (takes her like five  minutes to suck up the food), use a bowl with a raised middle to slow  her down.

Per the groomer, behaves very well when being bathed or groomed. Loves to be brushed, will allow you to clip her nails with no real issues.  This is an active dog and would do well with someone who was active in things like hiking, running, etc. the kind of things that will "give her job" or keep her mind busy. She can scale a fence lower than six feet (she is part Siberian Husky after all), so needs a secure yard when she is out, wood fence at least six feet high --no chain-link.  She is maintained INDOORS has never been destructive in the house.

Grooming a husky can be a high-maintenance process, they have a special type of double coat that naturally keeps them warm in the cold and helps to cool them off in warm weather.  It must NEVER be shaved as this will ruin the coat, they need to be groomed with a special tool called a rake at least twice a week.  It will remove any shedding fur from the undercoat and keep them from becoming matted. Hair between the toe-pads should also be trimmed at least once a month as overgrowth can keep them from being able to walk properly and will eventually cause foot issues.  Huskies do not retain the kind of "dog odor" that many other breeds do, for regular maintenance a bath every four weeks with an oatmeal based shampoo is usually sufficient. Of course, if the dog is participating in activities that require more frequent bathing--then common sense should be used, e.g. bathe the dog.

Huskies blow their coats (shed heavily) two-three times per year, in order to minimize the amount of shedding the regular grooming needs to be maintained. If you are not the type of person who is willing to groom your dog regularly, than you need to factor this into making the decision to welcome Maharet into your home.  This is part of who she is and it is not going change, so please make the decision informed and thoughtfully.

Responds well to positive, clear, and firm direction if given in a loving manner.  If you yell at her, you will be ignored.

Her adoption fee is $135.
