Response from Mike
From:
Dannenbaum, Mike [mailto:Mike.T.Dannenbaum@nhmccd.edu] We here at the college understand and share your concern about the welfare of these feral cats. First let me assure you that neither the college nor the pest control company is killing the cats. Rather, they are being turned over to a shelter. If Tomball SOS would like the cats, we do not have a problem with the cats being turned over to Tomball SOS and being placed for adoption. We do, however, have concerns about safety issues if we allow the cats back on the campus grounds. We have over 8000 students on campus in addition to visitors to the public library many of whom are children. With automatic sliding doors in several locations there is a possibility of cats entering the building. Also, students and the children have both tried to pet the cats in the past. The cats also get into equipment which can result in their getting seriously injured. The cats also live in the storm drains. In the event of a serious rain storm, the cats face the threat of drowning. We have spoken to the employees on campus about feeding the cats and have asked them to desist. I have discussed your plan with Administration and we have decided in the best interest of the students and community that the cats not be return to the campus grounds. Thank you, for understanding our decision.
